Skyrim Inventory Redesign Mockup
Inventory Redesign
The inventory redesign consists of, from left to right, the item category list area, the item inventory grid area (with visuals and filter options), and the character area (with visual equip system, character stats, and visual character representation). At the bottom left there are also possible actions labeled with connecting keyboard and mouse buttons (including new sell option).
Original Inventory Design
Button Area
The button area now has buttons for the actions of selecting an item, dropping an item, favoriting an item, or marking an item for sell. A mouse icon is used to communicate the selecting process.
Item Area
The item inventory area now has visual representations of items in the inventory placed in a grid. There are also preset item stats (i.e. name, type, weight, value) that items can be filtered by. These stats change depending on which category is chosen. There is also a search box area where text can be typed to filter the items. Clicking an item will create an audible sound and allow the item to be dragged around by the mouse cursor. Clicking again will create another audible sound and place the item where the player clicked, whether back in the inventory or in the character equip area. Placing a consumable item (i.e. potion, food) on the character representation will apply it to the character.
Item Stats
Hovering the mouse cursor over an item in the inventory will create an audible tick sound and display a window that shows the item stats. If it is an item that can be equipped in place of an already equipped item, it will display two windows. The left window is the item in the inventory and the right window is the equipped item, labeled “Equipped’’. If the inventory item has a higher stat value then the equipped item, a green plus and number representing the amount of difference will show next to the stat value. If the inventory item has a lower stat value then the equipped item, a red minus and number representing the amount of difference will show next to the stat value.
Item Sale
Items in the inventory can now be marked for sale. Pressing the [Q] Sell button while hovering the mouse cursor over an item will create an audible coin sound, move the item to the bottom of the inventory, turn the background of the item green, and place a “For Sale” label in the item stats. If a player talks to a merchant, all items marked for sale will automatically be sold.
Character Area
The character area displays, from top to bottom, the character’s race and name, the visual equip area, the character status bars (i.e. Health, Magicka, Stamina), and the character stats. In the equip area, if an equip section is empty that section shows a black icon communicating what items would go there (i.e. right hand section is empty, shows open right hand black icon). To the right is a visual representation of the character that is updated as items are equipped and unequipped. Below this is the character’s level stat and bar.
